Carl Edwards is a favorite to repeat as the LifeLock 400 winner this weekend at Michigan International Speedway, the latest stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
But right with him is points’ leader Kyle Busch, who finished a disappointing 43rd – last – in last Sunday’s Pocono 500.
Both drivers are at 5-1 odds at Bodog to win the 2008 LifeLock 400 in Brooklyn, Michigan on Sunday. Jimmie Johnson is 15-2, Greg Biffle is 9-1, and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne are all 10-1.
Kahne is coming off a win in the Pocono 500.
Edwards heads into the race as one of the most dominating drivers at MIS over the past three years. He has an average finish of 6.8 in that span and has completed 88.2 per cent of his laps in the top 15.
Busch’s last-place finish at the Pocono could be attributed to an overly ambitious schedule preceding the race. Bush raced at three different venues over the weekend; the NASCAR truck series on Friday night, the Nationwide Series on Saturday and the Sprint Cup Series at Pocono on Sunday. He finished 2nd on Friday, 20th on Saturday and last on Sunday.
The latter race result cost Busch 121 of his 142-point lead in the Sprint Cup Series standings, leaving him with just a 21-point edge over Jeff Burton. Busch has 2084 points, Burton 2063, followed by Earnhardt Jr. with 1939 and Edwards with 1856.
Busch has not had very good results at MIS, with two top-10 finishes in six starts.
The race has had various names over the years. When Edwards won last year, it was the Citizens Bank 400. In 2006 it was the 3M Performance 400 (won by Kasey Kahne) and the previous year it was the Batman Begins 400 won by Greg Biffle).
