Sprint Cup standings leader Kyle Busch is taking a circuitous route to this weekend’s Pocono 500 NASCAR race, which he is favored to win.
After he qualifies for Sunday’s race at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA, Busch will compete in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday night, followed by the a stand-alone event for the Nationwide Series on Saturday in Nashville.
In total, Busch will drive 592 laps for a total of 1,050 miles. In addition, he will fly a total of 3,177 miles – the distance from his home base in Mooresville, NC to Pocono, Fort Worth, Nashville and back to Pocono.
Busch, who leads the Sprint Cup Series Standings with 2050 points, 142 ahead of second-place Jeff Burton, is a 9-2 favorite at Bodog to win the Pocono 500.
Defending champion Jeff Gordon, whose 2007 win was cut short because of rain, is down the list of favorites at 12-1.
After Busch, Denny Hamlin is 6-1, Carl Edwards is 13-2, and Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are all 8-1.
Auto Racing betting fans may want to take a chance on Gordon, though, as his Hendrick Motorsports group has three consecutive top-five finishes, a streak that has propelled the four-time series champion to sixth in the standings, 404 points behind Busch.
The Pocono 500 starts at 12:30 ET on Sunday and can be seen on TNT.
